To celebrate the 30th anniversary of New Zealand's premier multisport race, Speight's is running a series of instructional "webinars". These informative, online tutorials have been designed to assist both competitors and support crew. 12-time race veteran Kelly Barber will present the sessions, with a few special guests along the way.
There are six webinars scheduled between now and race day. Full details of dates, times and topics are listed on this page. Watch the webinars live on this website and use the chat window at the right to ask questions at the end of each session. If you miss a webinar you can simply watch it on demand from the video library below.
Background Info
The Speight's Coast to Coast is an event as diverse as the rugged New Zealand landscape it unfolds on. From the elite athlete to the weekend warrior, the individual to the team…. the Speight's Coast to Coast is a unique two days enjoyed by all, no matter what the level of competitiveness.
The course itself is a showcase of New Zealand's finest scenery, traversing the South Island from Kumara on the Tasman Sea to Sumner Beach on the Pacific Ocean. Over either two days (individuals or two person teams) or the one- day event (individuals only), competitors cycle 140 kms, run 33 km aross the Southern Alps, and kayak 67kms through the Grand Canyon of New Zealand, the Waimakariri Gorge.
Like the competitors, the team at Speight's values the importance of good old- fashioned hard yakka, and there's no hiding from it with this event! Endurance races are particularly special because although you're alone in your personal quest, you have a support crew watching your back. These individuals are the unsung heroes, frequently making the difference between a competitor finishing and quitting.
The sense of relief, the joy of sharing the moment with your mates and the reward for the hardship faced deserves a good honest beer. Lucky Speight's has been the principal sponsor of the Coast to Coast since 1989.
